Eyes perform one of the most crucial functions of the body. This organ works in connection with the brain; and is well protected by the eyelids and the skull, while tears keep them lubricated.
Causes of eye damage
1) Reading in dim light causes eye fatigue.
2) Prolonged periods of continuous reading or working on the computer cause eye damage.
3) Holding book too close to the eyes while reading is undesirable.

Helpful tips
1) A well balanced diet providing all necessary nutrients for good vision.
2) To reduce eye fatigue, give your eyes an occasional rest-frequently relaxing the eyes to relieve the pain.
Four simple eye relaxation methods
1) Palming
Briskly rub your palms together until they are warm and then place the cupped palms over your closed eyes. Remain in the position for at least 1 minute. Do this thrice.
2) Tensing/ Relaxing
Close your eyes and gently tense the eye muscles so that the muscles contract. Now quickly release the tension. It deeply relaxes the eyes.
3) Splashing cold water
Using your cupped palms splash cold water 12 to 15 times over your closed eyes. Then gently wipe your eyes using a towel.
4) Blinking
Cultivate the habit of blinking regularly to prevent eye fatigue. Try to blink once every 20 seconds to relax the eyes.
