Skin Cancer

Excessive exposure to the sun has caused virtually all of the one million cases of skin cancer.
There are three common forms of skin cancer-
Basal cell carcinomas
Squamous cell carcinomas
Malignant melanomas
Risk factors for skin cancer are as under-
1)Â Â Â Â Â Skin type-people with light colored-skin who never tan but always burn are at high risk.
2)Â Â Â Â Â Sun exposure-individuals who live in areas with many days of sunlight per year and at high attitudes have a higher risk of developing skin cancer. Likewise, people who engage in outdoor occupations and those who have suffered three or more severe sunburns have a higher risk.
3)Â Â Â Â Â Family history-skin cancer rates are higher in some families than in others.
4)Â Â Â Â Â Age-older people are more likely to suffer from skin cancer because of longer total exposure to sun.
5)Â Â Â Â Â Immunological status-immunosuppressed individuals have a higher incidence of skin cancer.
The key to successful treatment for skin cancer is early detection.
