Anemia

Anemia

Anemia is the state in which the oxygen carrying power of blood reduces. All the many types of anemia are characterized by reduced numbers of RBC’s or a decreased amount of hemoglobin concentration in the blood. The sufferer feels exhausted and is bigoted of cold, both of which are related to be short of oxygen needed for ATP and heat construction. Moreover, the skin appears whitish, because of squat content of red colored hemoglobin circulating in skin blood vessels.

The different types of anemia and their causes are as under-

1) Iron deficiency anemia - caused due to insufficient adsorption of iron, excessive loss of iron, or scarce intake of iron in the body.

2) Megaloblastic anemia - caused due to insufficient intake of vitamin B12 or folic acid. It is also caused by drugs that alter gastric secretion and cancer.

3) Pernicious anemia - caused due to inadequate hemopoiesis resulting from an inability of the stomach to produce intrinsic factor.

4) Hemorrhagic anemia - caused by excess loss of RBC’s through bleeding resulting from large wounds or heavy menstruations.

5) Aplastic anemia – results from destruction of red bone marrow caused by toxins, gamma radiation.

6) Thalassemia – caused due to deficient synthesis of hemoglobin.

7) Hemolytic anemia – caused due to inherited defects such as abnormal red blood cell enzymes, or from outside agents like toxins, parasites, antibodies from incompatible transfused blood.
