Kids caught in center during wars
U.S.A military hospitals treated a major number of wounded and ill kids in the early years of the clash in Iraq and Afghanistan, a finds new study, and say military doctors children stay arriving at their hospitals nowadays.
With no right front line or fight zone, the war makes kids especially vulnerable to wander off bullets and other combat risk, one study said author. And with Iraq’s collapsing own medical organization, families seek out the U.S. armed forces to help their children by more conventional sickness. “I took worry of children burned from a heater with kerosene, regular vehicle accidents, other injuries minor to the conflict itself,” thought study co-author Dr. Philip Spinella, who served as an Military doctor in Baghdad in 2004 and 2005.
The Military doctors routinely care for children wounded by rocket-propelled missiles and roadside bombs, said Spinella, that’s now works at Connecticut for kids Medical Center in Hartford.
The study, available in the February subject of the journal Pediatrics, is based on military hospital data from Dec 2001 to Dec 2004.
